October 2008-Recipe of the Month- Skeleton Salad
Whether you are celebrating the spooky season, or just playing pirates, this salad will be a great hit with the kids!

Ingredients Needed:

1/2 peeled or canned pear
small dried currants
small bar of Monterrey Jack cheese-cut into thirds lengthwise
pomegranate seeds or small pieces of cherry

Utensils needed:

Plate
knife (to cut cheese)

Directions:

Place pear half on plate, cut side down.
Arrange currants on pear to resemble the skeletons eyes, nose holes and teeth.
Cris cross two lengths of cheese to form the bones under the face.
Break the last piece of cheese into quarters and place at the ends of the bones for the bony knobs.
Place pomegranate seeds on bony knobs and one in the center to add color.
Serve.
*  This same idea will work if you substitute a scoop of cottage cheese for the pear and use carrot sticks or celery for the bones.
