November 2009-CRAFT OF THE MONTH-Thanksgiving Vases

Children love to help set the table and prepare for that Thanksgiving Dinner!  This month we will have them making the centerpiece vase. Instead of flowers in this one, we are making fall colors pretzel rods. These will act as the turkey's feathers and serve as the finishing Epicurean delight of a great meal.

TURKEY CENTERPIECE VASE

Materials Needed:

Empty, cleaned yogurt cup
Acrylic paint
Paint Brush
Construction Paper
Scissors
Markers
Glue Stick

Directions:

Paint the empty yogurt can and let it dry.
Fold the construction paper into quarters, and draw on a bowling pin shape that looks like a turkey's body.
Cut the turkey shape out- you will have 4 turkeys.
Draw the face on the turkeys.  Decorate the rest of the turkeys body as you desire.
Using your glue stick, rub glue on the back of the turkeys and stick the turkeys around the yogurt container.
Fill the vase with chocolate covered pretzel rods.
Place in the center of the table as the centerpiece. Pretzels can be eaten at the end of the meal.
*Yogurt cup will hold up to 6 pretzel rods.

This craft works of scissors skills and graphic skills of drawing a face. Drawing the face works on perceptual skills of position in space.
