May 2010- Craft of the Month- Mother's Day Theme
This month we have a craft that will remind any mother or mother figure how much she is really loved. It is a Hugs and Kisses Container. It contains all the hugs and kisses a child can construct, so that Mom will feel loved any time, anywhere. This craft is our sequencing pictures of the month!
Materials Needed:
Empty jar or plastic container (we used a plastic frosting container)
Skin Colored Construction paper
Markers
Glue
Scissors
Lipstick (darker shades for boys)
Q tips
White or pink paper for messages
Directions:
Trace around the child's hands onto the construction paper, connecting the space in between hands with lines.
Cut the hands out of the construction paper.
Draw fingernails and joint lines on the hands.
Glue hands around the jar/container to look like they are giving the jar a hug.
Using a Q-tip, paint the child's lips and let them kiss several slips of the white or pink papers to form the kiss pages.
On blank slips of paper, draw XOXO for hugs and kisses, and write the word KISS on the lip papers.
Fold the papers and place in the jar/container.
Trace around the lid on paper, and cut the circle out. Glue to the top of the lid.
Write "Hugs and Kisses 4 Mom" on the lid, and close the hugs and kisses into the container, to be used whenever Mom needs a hug or a kiss!
This craft is great for advancing cutting skill levels and printing skills. It is also great for bilateral motor control.
