Rainbow Colors in a Cloud Recipe of the Month

This recipe requires a day to firm up, but it will heighten the children's anticipation of the treat for the next day.
Colorful and delicious, the children will be asking to make this recipe again!

Rainbow Colors in a Cloud

Ingredients:

3 packages of assorted flavors (colors) gelatin
3 cups boiling water
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 package flavored gelatin (this one will tint the "cloud").
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup cold water
1 tub (8 ounces) Whipped Topping- thawed

Utensils Needed:

3 containers to make gelatin
measuring cups
whisk
spatula
knife
mixing bowls
9" x 5" loaf pan

Directions:

1.  Wash and dry hands with soap and water.
2.  Prepare gelatin's separately as directed on package using 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup cold water for each.  Pour into separate pans and refrigerate for 4 hours.
3.  Cut firm gelatin into 1/2 inch cubes.
4.  Stir 1 cup boiling water into cloud tint gelatin flavor and dissolve gelatin completely.  Add 1/2 cup cold water  and stir. Pour into a pan to set.
5.  Refrigerate 45 minutes or until slightly thickened (the consistency of unbeaten egg whites).
6.  Fold in 1/2 of the whipped topping until well blended.
7.  Gently fold in the gelatin cubes.
8.  Pour into loaf pan and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
9.  Remove from loaf pan and garnish with remaining whipped topping and sprinkles if desired.  Makes 16 slices.

With 3 different gelatins this is a great activity to divide up the class and have each group make one color gelatin.  Then they can see how teamwork turns out a beautiful and delicious treat that everyone contributed to!

Another way to make a plain "rainbow" is to get 5 different packages of gelatin and make up 1 box using 1 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup cold water.  Then pour the gelatin into the loaf pan and refrigerate 1-2 hours before repeating the process with the next color layer. This becomes an all day on-going cooking activity, but when you slice off that "rainbow" of jello the next day the children LOVE IT!
