June 2010- Recipe of the Month-Rose Month Theme

This month we have a refreshing "rose bud" salad the children will love assembling and then eating!



Ingredients Needed:

Celery Stalk (the stems)
A few baby lettuce greens (the leaves)
Sliced Almonds (the thorns)
Strawberries (the buds)

Kitchen Utensils Needed:

Plate
Cutting Board
Knife

Directions:

Wash and dry hands.
Slice the celery stalk into long thin sticks to serve as the rose stems.
Put 3 sticks on each plate.
Top each slice with a whole strawberry to look like a rose bud.
Arrange lettuce leaves and almonds on the celery sticks to look like the rose's leaves and thorns.
Serve.

*If you would like a more open rose, slice one whole strawberry into thin slices and arrange around in place of the bud strawberry to look like the petals are opening.
