July 2006 Recipes of the Month--Bugging

We have two recipes to share this month in honor of insects and  bugs!  These will be a spider sandwich and a web veggie salad!


Spider Sandwich

Ingredients needed for each Spider Sandwich:

2 slices of bread
sandwich filling (peanut butter, cream cheese, tuna, etc)
8 crunchy cheese curls
2 raisins

Equipment needed:

round cookie cutter or plastic cup that will fit onto bread to cut out a circle
knife
plate

Directions:

1.  Wash and dry hands.
2.  Using a round cookie cutter, or plastic cup, cut a circle out of each piece of bread.
3.  Spread one circle of bread with filling.
4.  Top with other circle of bread.
5.  Insert 4 cheese curls into Boldeach side of "spider" to form his legs.
6.  Press the two raisins into the top for the spider's eyes.
7.  Serve on plate with Web Salad.


Web Salad

Ingredients Needed:

1  carrot (or celery stalk or green pepper)
ranch dressing

Equipment needed:

small zip lock bag
scissors
knife
cutting board
vegetable peeler

Directions:

1.  Wash and dry hands.
2.  Peel carrot.
3.  With adult help, cut carrot into strips
4.  Arrange carrot strips into wheel shape on plate.
5.  Pour some dressing into zip lock bag and seal.
6.  Cut off corner tip of bag and pipe dressing onto carrot to form the web.

*   Thinned peanut butter, or cheese in a squeeze can can be piped on instead of dressing if desired!
