Chocolate Candy Critters



Mouse on "Swiss Cheese" Heart



Materials Needed:


2  Chocolate Kisses
Glue Stick
2 Googly eyes
Construction paper (for cheese heart, nose and ears)
Scissors
Hole Punch

Directions:


1.  Cut a 2"-3" heart out of yellow construction paper.
2.  Use hole punch to Punch holes in heart to make it look like Swiss cheese.
3.  Cut out construction paper ears to be put between kisses.
4.  Glue construction paper ears between both kisses (flat sides of kisses together). This will make the mouse's body.
5.  Glue mouse body onto Swiss cheese paper.
6.  Split Kiss tassel to form mouses' whiskers.
7.  Use a hole punched dot as a nose and glue on between split tassel on one kiss.  Stretch out other tassel as mouse's tail.
8.  Glue on Googly eyes, slightly above nose on one kiss.  Let dry.
Construction paper cheese heart can be decorated with any verse or saying you care to print on it.

Peanut Butter Cup Turtle



Materials Needed:


Peanut Butter Cup  (Individual  Size)
Construction Paper
Googly eyes
Glue Sticks
Small Valentine stickers
Scissors


Directions:

1.  Cut out a body shape with heart flippers, tail and head from construction paper.
2.  Glue construction paper body to bottom of peanut butter cup.
3.  Glue googly eyes on head portion of construction paper.
4.  Cut a leaf or lily pad out of construction paper, snip around the edges and fold up slightly to give leaf/pad some dimension.
5.  Glue turtle to leaf.
6.  Decorate "turtle shell" (candy's wrapper) with small stickers.  Sayings or verses can be printed on the leaf/lily pad.



Rosebud



Materials Needed:

2 Candy Kisses
3" square of  rose colored plastic wrap
Toothpick
Floral tape
Small leaf cut from green construction paper
Scissors
Glue Stick

Directions:



1.  Glue the two kisses together--flat sides together.
2.  Wrap rose colored plastic wrap around the attached kisses and twist at tip of one kiss.
3.  Insert toothpick into kiss near twisted wrap.
4.  Spiral floral tape down toothpick, starting at wrap to secure rosebud to the toothpick.
5.  Add construction paper leaf and wrap leaf into place with small piece of floral tape.

Rosebud can be taped to a card, or stuck into floral foam or play dough stuck in small flowerpot.

These craft activities are great for bilateral hand activities.  The require a lot of repetitive sustained pinch grasp.  They do not require a great deal of time to get a whimsical product that the children will be asking to make more of. The cutting level involved for these items is at the simple (leaf)  to complex shape (ears or body).
