February 2009 "Recipes of the Month"--Presidential Lunches
The recipes this month are great "finger food" lunches for the children! The children will enjoy making the lunches and then eating them!
Washington's Ax and Cherries Lunch Lincoln's Cabin Lunch

Washington's Ax and Cherries
Ingredients Needed:
Long Pretzel Rod
Rectangle of Cheese
Strips of Peppers, carrots or pimento
Cherries
Items Needed:
Plate
Cutting Board
Knife
Directions:
Wash and Dry Hands.
Cut niches in cheese to form an ax shape.
Lay cheese on plate.
Place pretzel over cheese at niche to form ax handle.
Cris Cross veggie strips to look like ax lashing.
Add a pile of cherries, so it looks like the cherry tree has been cut down and all that is left are the cherries! (Mint leaves can be added if desired)
* A dessert version can be made by substituting a pirouette cookie for the Ax handle and a graham cracker for the cheese. Use fudge or marshmallow sauce to connect the Ax to the handle.
Lincoln's Cabin
Ingredients Needed:
3 Pretzel Rods
Slice of cheese/luncheon meat
Mini Carrot sticks
Veggies cut into squares, rectangles, circles for windows, doors, tree tops
Ranch salad dressing
Items Needed:
Cutting Board
Knife
Plate
Directions:
Wash and dry hands.
Break the pretzels in half and lay on plate to form the cabin.
Fold the cheese or luncheon meat in half and place on top of cabin as the roof.
Place a carrot on top of the roof for the chimney.
Add doors, windows and trees out of cut up veggie shapes.
Pipe on ranch salad dressing as smoke coming from the chimney or clouds.
Enjoy eating, by dipping veggies and pretzels in the ranch dressing!
