February 2008 "Recipe of  Month"--Chinese Dragons

Since the craft of the month is a red dragon, or recipe is also a red dragon the children will love eating!



Ingredients Needed:

Rod pretzels
Red melting chocolate discs
Mini marshmallows
Chocolate chips or Candy coated chocolate pieces
Sprinkles or jimmies

Needed Equipment:

plastic microwaveable cup
wire rack for drying
spatula to scrape chocolate or spread
dish to catch overflow of sprinkes or jimmies

Directions:

1.  Wash and dry hands.
2.  Place chocolate discs in cup.
3.  Microwave on high for 30 second intervals.  Stir with spatula between intervals until chocolate is melted and smooth.
4.  Dip pretzel rod into chocolate about 1/2 to 2/3 way up rod.
5.  Sprinkle with jimmies or sprinkles and place on rack to dry.
6.  Rewarm a little chocolate to use as "glue" to attach the features on the dragon. This chocolate can be placed in a zip lock bag and then cut tip off to squeeze out to attach features.
7.  Smash two mini marshmallows together flat, to make mouth and attach to end of pretzel rod (chocolate dipped end) for mouth.  Chocolate can be piped on for a mouth.
8.  Attach two mini marshmallows about 1/2 inch back from mouth for the whites of the dragon's eyes.
9.  Attach 2 chocolate chips (or coated candies) in front of eyes for the pupils.
10.  Attach  chocolate chips down the back of the dragon for his spikes.  Return to rack and let dry.
11.  Enjoy!
