This cooking project
addresses assembly skills and cutting skills. It also gives you a
chance to discuss appliance safety for the toaster and the
microwave. Math skills of counting how many items are used and
fractions (cutting a whole into halves) are also involved! Picking up
the olives and peppers improves pincher grasp and works on eye-hand
coordination as well as position in space skills.
Want to
make a "Sweet" School Bus instead. Substitute a whole sheet of
graham cracker for the bread. Tint a can of white frosting yellow
and have the children spread the frosting on the cracker.
Decorate with candy coated chocolate or fruit flavored pieces, or
licorice pieces. Flattened Tootsie Rolls or chocolate wafer cookies
become the "Wheels on the Bus."
