August has been designated as National Ice Cream Month! It is
also a time of year when teachers and students begin to think about
going back to school! So this month we are going to make cans
that can be used to store supplies on the students desk--OR-- used to
make ICE CREAM!
Can Containers

Materials Needed:
Empty round can with lid (coffee can, oatmeal box, formula cans, etc.)
Paint
Markers
Paint Brush
Directions:
1. Paint outside of can and let dry.
2. Using markers, design outside of can to look like a school bus or
ice cream truck. The design can be done horizontally or
vertically.
3. Fill can with school supplies such as crayons,
scissors, pencils or glue sticks and keep on desk. OR go to the
recipe section and make the Kick the Can Ice Cream.

This
craft encourages bilateral coordination to paint the can. It
works on graphic skills of drawing and you can work on name practice as
the child prints his name on his can. If you are using the can to
make the ice cream, then the can becomes involved in the gross motor
skills of shaking, tossing or kicking the can, as a means to make the
ice cream. If you are working on tactile issues with the child,
have them finger-paint the can for the sensory input.
